Flashback: Burning Man - Dustastic!

So I found these pictures when I was looking through our stuff from last year.

This was taken bright and early the first morning.

This was taken a few hours later.

I CAN’T WAIT!!

WHEEEEEE!

Bear Hat!

I am very sad that I cannot justify bringing this hat to Mexico. We are currently packing up all of our clothes. This is very hard for me. I feel like I am dooming myself to only wearing the 8 items of clothing in my backpack for the next 3 months. OH WAIT I AM. I therefore console myself by buying this incredibly adorable hat.

Belated Linktastic: Week Ending January 24, 2009

Hello lovelies!

Many apologies for being M.I.A. over the weekend; we are on our final week at work and the pressures are mounting! I did manage to find a backpack on Sunday. It is beautiful! Pictures shortly.

I usually post up my links on Saturdays, but since I slacked and have some AWESOME things saved up, I will go ahead and post them now.

City of Ember. We watched this movie on Friday (ok, I did ONE non-productive thing!), and I fell in love. It’s a beautiful, steampunk-y, lovely Y.A. story that got made into a movie. If you haven’t seen it, I would recommend you do so!

This picture.

I’m loving some 20’s era, dark noir style photos that I’ve come across. Enjoy this, this, and this!

Knitted naughty parts! And for a good cause! So cute!

I don’t usually re-post links that I’ve found on other blogger’s recent link posts, since I know we all hate regurgitated drivel. However, this website turned a bad day around for me and caused me to look at ordinary things and say, AWESOME! Thanks Gala!

I’m not ashamed to admit that I still have issue with pronouncing some of the more un-pronounceable couturiers. Go here if you would like to hear someone else say it!

Old people street style! Awwww!

It’s not even good rap. But you should listen anyway, because how often do you get to hear two white guys rap about “Cake In The Kitchen” and other traditions held dear by us office dwellers?

This is just wierd. Any ideas, guys?.

For those of us who are dieting, I offer this. I love lists like this, they can really help you get ideas when you are sick of the same old celery sticks and rice cakes.

What a freaking cool website! I am so doing this when we get back from traveling!

I hope we don’t run into this guy’s apprentice while on our trip.

This artist’s webpage is one of my favorite places to go when I’m feeling dull and unimaginative. She is wonderful.

AAAANNND:

The icing on the cake (yes Magen, this is it). NSFW!

ENJOY!

Things I’m Loving

Movies: The Spirit

I loved this movie. Now, it is by no means a great movie, but it is funny and amusing and was really fun to watch. It doesn’t take itself seriously at all, which is what most movies that are based on comics seem to do. There are some great broads that are just as well developed crazy freaking weird as the main two guys. The Jackson was off his rocker, and the Spirit was the most lovable super hero I’ve seen for awhile. Sand Saref was my favorite lady character, a hot ruthless jewel thief with a love for all things sparkly, and Silken Floss rocks some sweet fetish-y outfits. Go for style inspiration if nothing else.

Books: The Joy Of Living

This is a book that Nathan is reading. He has been reading excerpts to me and I cannot wait to get started on it. (The rule in our house is that I have to wait until he’s done, otherwise I’ll read ahead of where he is and end up asking, “Oh, did you read that part about such and such?”. He cannot stand this.)

It’s written by a Buddhist teacher, and so it has all of the goodness you would expect from such a book, but the fascinating part is how he merges Buddhist teachings with modern scientific ideas, showing the parallels between them and complementing the old ideas with new explanations. I read a bit from it about unlearning habits, and was really inspired. It also has meditation and thought exercises. If you like science and the art of zen, check this one out.

Home Decor: Candy Frosted Christmas Trees

(Sorry for the crappy pictures, I only had my little point & shoot camera.)

We went to the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens last weekend, and the conservatory lobby was decked the hell out. I’m talking at least 20 christmas trees, wreaths everywhere, a “Peppermint Junction”, and lots of other goodies. I fell in love with the white trees covered in gumdrops and cupcakes. You can get your own cupcake ornaments here and here, and sprays of gumdrops here. Also, extra glitter to fill in those bare spots here!

Photography: Tripods

My big Christmas present from Nathan was a tripod! I didn’t even know I wanted one but once I opened it, I went crazy. I also got a tiny remote shutter, which together made the absolute perfect surprise present. THANK YOU!!!

Shopping: The Find.com

This site is freaking sweet. If you haven’t used it before, give it a try the next time you are looking for something, say, lace tights, or perhaps cupcake christmas ornaments. It blows Google Checkout or Nextag out of the water.

Websites: 100 Best Blogs For Fashion And Design Majors

This is a sweet roundup of a boatload of great blogs. You, like me, have probably been to most of them at one point or another, but unless you’re super rss happy, you may have forgotten about them. Enough web fodder to keep you busy for a few hours, at least.
