Lifestyle Artist 101

The lovely and inspiring Halcyon wrote some wise words in his LJ back in November. It was just what I needed to hear. Now I have a way to share it with more people!

He helped me realize that it’s ok to wear my faux fur coat to the grocery store, to dress exactly the way I want to - and yes, while that usually means pushing boundaries, it also means, maybe, gasp!, to NOT try to outdo myself once in awhile! That it’s ok to keep all of my awesomeness on the inside sometimes, and that I don’t need to feel obligated to prove how cool I am! To say exactly what I think, to not be creeped out when strangers try to start up a conversation with me, and to demolish that barrier that existed for so long between “who I was” and “who I wanted to be”.

Have I gotten to “that point” yet, where I am exactly everything I could ever want to be? No. But I’m realizing more and more that there is no single point that I am working towards. And that while wanting to change, to have goals, to be different, be more, be better, is a good thing, having the mindset that “you are not yet the person you want to be” can cheat you of the pleasure of who you are right now.

Instead of focusing only on that image of you that you feel is unattainable right now, do something small that gets you a little further to that image, and then spend the rest of your day basking in the fact that right now, you are a wonderful, cool, self-realizing person who is actively being the person they want to be! Try to strike a balance with yourself between who you want to be and who you are right now.

I have these words where I can see them every morning. “Being a lifestyle artist is greeting each day with a child’s eyes and a sense of self that you are the protagonist in an epic myth.”

It’s up to us to make our lives be that epic myth! And don’t forget, an epic myth is a story that has ordinary days and fantastic days. It’s a journey to a certain fabulous conclusion, true, but you should be enjoying the story from start to finish!

Go on, read the rest!

What does it mean to be a “Lifestyle Artist?”

I hope that it will inspire you as well!

Maybe to do this?

Font porn

I am addicted to fonts. It’s art! But instant! Every time I design something new, I have to go look for a new font (or 10), because YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT COULD BE OUT THERE. It could be better than anything heretofore seen. Yeah, I need to get out of this industry.

I haven’t even gotten into the harder stuff, like font brushes. I think I’m afraid I will like it too much, and will spend all day designing headers and pages and business cards and other gewgaws that never see the light of day.

I wanted to share this website: dafont.com

Here is a sampling of the gorgeousness I found there:

Also: new header in the works!! And it’s going to be clickable!! I am learning CSS like mad because I have an intense urge to customise EVERYTHING. I am having to work on it at night, because the cracked photoshop on my work computer shuts down every time I try to add a second layer of anything.  Mucho annoying.
